It started back in 1999. One man with a vision - a dream. He saw a new soccer club; one that would be able “To provide a world-class soccer program that would develop world-class soccer athletes.” One catch – this man lived and worked in Southwest Riverside County. This soccer program would need to be based there, too. You see, for years, the Temecula Valley offered nothing to soccer athletes who had the desire, the ability and the drive to excel at the world’s most favorite game. This valley saw our most gifted athletes drifting to clubs to the south and the north, searching for soccer programs that could take them to the highest level. It was now time for Southwest Riverside County to have its own “world class soccer organization.” This is how Southwest Soccer Club came to be – because of one man’s vision, one man’s dream.
What next? Well, we needed to decide which league to have our teams compete in. We found that the league that has sent more athletes to D1 (Division I) Colleges than any other soccer league in the country was located right here in Southern California – the Coast Soccer League (CSL). We’d place all of our teams in the CSL.
Southwest SC started that first year hoping to field four teams - we ended up with nine. The following year, we set our goals on ten and ended up with thirteen. The 2002-2003 season had fifteen. We were in no hurry to be big. We were more focused on being best. It’s an extremely high goal, we understand. We plan on taking small, calculated steps in order to insure our success.
We at Southwest SC are very serious about soccer and we are proud of our Clubs’ accomplishments to date. In our first two years as a club, we landed our B83 (U19) team in the prestigious Premier Division of the CSL; after taking first place in Silver Elite, our B86 (U16) team went on to become the 2001 State Champions, advancing to the Gold Division. After taking first place in Gold, the B86's made it to the Premier Division as well. What an accomplishment!!
A great addition to the Club has been with our Girls Director, Ms. Jenny Lawlor. Jenny has coached the Chaparral High School girls varsity soccer program in Temecula since 1997, winning the league title 4 times in her first five years, finishing the 2001 season as a CIF semi-finalist.
Next, we asked ourselves, why must we beg, borrow and fight to get field space for the children of the area to play the game that more kids in the US play than all other sports combined? The answer was simple... We need a place, a big place, where the kids can play soccer. Yes, Southwest SC made a commitment to bring a designated soccer complex to the Temecula Valley.
The John Blanche Memorial Soccer Complex - Home of Southwest Soccer Club, is now a reality. The Complex is a 42-acre site, room enough for 20 full size fields, 40 8 V 8 fields or a combination of the two sizes, located in the beautiful Temecula Valley in Southwest Riverside County. Not only do we have our own CSL league play at The Complex, but we now offer field space and have hosted various tournaments, including State Cup. The Complex is also host to AYSO Recreational league play and ODP has held their training sessions here, too.
What else? Is there actually soccer after high school or after college? There is at the John Blanche Memorial Soccer Complex, Home of Southwest SC. We've started and are currently operating a successful adult league, too. Ah, yes, SOCCER - designated Soccer - for all people and all levels of play... Recreational, Select, Club/Competitive, Adult, young and old, right here in the beautiful Temecula Valley - At Last!!!
So, if you’re interested in playing at the highest level possible, under a proven coaching staff, led by accomplished Directors, or, if you're interested in any of the other opportunites we have to offer, then I’d encourage you to consider Southwest Soccer Club and the John Blanche Memorial Soccer Complex. We have a program where taking you to the highest level is part of our vision, part of our goal. Bringing soccer to the local community is something we offer as well.
Thank you for your interest in Southwest Soccer Club. If you have any questions, please email me at Admin@southwestsoccerclub.com.
